Cath Styles is the Accidental Cougar

Love what Cath Styles brings to the table every year, but this show has been a long time coming! Cath has some amazing “Cougar” material and it’s been part of her regular sets for many years … but then! It all came true! She is an Accidental Cougar!

In the wake of becoming unexpectedly single, and even more unexpectedly turning 50, this fierce, funny feminist finds out what it’s like when your favourite joke becomes a reality!

From break-ups to wake-ups (and make-up!), Accidental Cougar is a fresh and funny look at dating later, and ever

after.

Two jobs, two cats, two countries and four kids… nurse, comic, mother and mad international traveller Cath Styles finds a keepsake in Africa which turns her life upside down and makes her ask the big question…

Can you live your own punchline?

Cath Styles brings her new show Accidental Cougar to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2018. It’s funny, it’s real and it’s certainly relatable to many of us who’ve been thrown a curve ball in life. Come along and laugh with Cath as she navigates dating, life and everything in between.

This is a must see show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and one of my top picks for the fest!

Cath Styles in SHIFT at Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2016

EXCITING TIMES! My gorgeous and talented friend Cath is back at Melbourne International Comedy Festival with a brand new show, SHIFT!

I’ve always found it fascinating how Cath juggles her professional career psychiatric nursing, with her passion and love for comedy. She nails both but add in family, friends, and life as well as your two work lives…. things get interesting.

It’s on from 5-17th April and we’ve got 2 x Double Passes to giveaway.

Tell us when and how you have lived a double life?

You can pick the date you would like to attend – just answer in the comments below!

LovellyCommunications

We invite you to explore the craziness of a way of life where strange is normal, and normal is strange as Cath Styles presents her new show SHIFT at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2016.

Cath Styles has been a psychiatric nurse for 25 years, and a comedian for 10. Between the nights, evenings, weekends and holidays she’s worked in both jobs, she’s never had a weekend off. Ever! Shift is the show where both her worlds collide, and explores her on again, off again, love affair with her (paying!) job.

No stranger to finding the funny in the dark and bizarre, the creator of festival favourite Darkness and Light blends stand-up and storytelling to tell touching, and twisted tales of her enduring 25 year fling with psych nursing.

The show will run from April 5 to 17 at The Downstairs Lounge at the Grand Mercure Hotel at 6.30pm. Details for…

Juan Vesuvius presents “Calypso Nights, Juan Two?” at MICF 2016

Last year I saw Juan Vesuvius perform his clown DJ show, Calypso Nights, at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and it was an absolute stand out! It’s stayed in my mind and I’m so excited to be seeing “Juan Two?” tonight! Getting my Calypso moves ready and hunting down the maracas! Come along for opening night.

More about the show:

Following his music-infused cult hit, Calypso Nights, award-winning Venezualan DJ Juan Vesuvius is back with a brand new adventure in Caribbean music, politics and absurdism.

Calypso Nights: Juan, Two? is the second instalment in Juan’s mission to heal the world with calypso. Wow. Beautiful.

Using his unique brand of vinyl-mixing, maraca-wielding comedy Juan will guide you on a journey that is part music lesson, part dance party, part psychedelic chutney trip.

Pretty Peepers – An Untraditional Cabaret

Presented by Glitta Supernova

Sydney’s original underground freak show Pretty Peepers, takes on Melbourne Fringe festival for five explosive shows.

Pretty Peepers, the grotesquely gorgeous variety show where parody is the recipe for fun & fury. Its spooky characters, adult illusion & absurd strip art as you’ve NEVER seen it before. Glitta Supernova steers a beautiful demented trip into the underbelly of the human psyche.

Pretty Peepers 03_5mb

Peepers own special brand of camp comedy & absurd theatre is dished with lavish servings of humor, nudity & pizzazz then bluntly diced with the absolute unexpected.

Watch in awe as Glitta Supernova steers a beautiful demented trip into the underbelly of the human psyche, say Aahh as Peepers own special brand of camp comedy & absurd theatre is dished with lavish servings of humor, nudity & pizzazz, squeal as its bluntly diced with the absolute unexpected…

Infamous in Sydney’s underground as the “artist’s artist” Glitta Supernova mashes the best of Sydney’s established & emerging performers, pushing their creative boundaries of expression in experimental performance art with an ethos in the spirit of non-censorship.

With past special and surprise guests the likes of Amanda Palmer (USA), Panty Bliss (Ireland), & Christa Hughes (Machine Gun Fellatio, AUS) Pretty peeper’s rings true to the spirit of the “old European cabaret” with a wink to the social climate of today.

Receiving the ABC Performance Award @ this year’s Perth Fringe world (2nd Runner-up) “Pretty Peepers the Untraditional Cabaret” returns Melbourne with a brand new 1 hour show that’s set to open minds and legs!

Relevant, sizzling, enlightening and repulsive this is a show night not to be missed.

“Not lady-gaga-bizarre, real bizarre, the kind of shit that takes true balls. Burlesque with acne, larger than life, apocalyptic sexual bravery, crashing-train-and-plane level stuff” Amanda Palmer”

The World Record Show at Melbourne Fringe

I attended this silly silly show the other night. And laughed myself silly.

The show is entirely based around fun and of course the very true and real, World Records.

Ok, some are not so real and some are made up on the spot. Some even include audience participation.

I at one point laughed for an entire minute whilst one of the participants, Dave Warneke, did more than 200 underarm farts whilst being filmed closely in his deep concentration. He for the record, BROKE THE RECORD!

Is it ridiculous? YES!

Is it funny? YES!

Is it a must see for the fringe? HELLS YES! Get there!

New storytelling podcast in Melbourne – Cock and Bull!

Very much looking forward to seeing the launch of this new podcast, The Cock and Bull. I saw the live storytelling the other night at Horse Bazaar in Melbourne and they recorded the podcast that night but they need our help to get this thing off the ground! See their project here: http://www.pozible.com/project/14374

The Cock and Bull is (or very soon will be) a weekly storytelling podcast that aims to achieve just that: a chance to hear some great stories from some of Australia’s (and the world’s) best and most entertaining storytellers.

The stories themselves will come in all shapes and sizes; some will make you laugh, some will make you cry, some are serious, some are silly and some might just teach you something you never knew before.

This is run by Cathy Culliver and Jon Bennett, who also run the popular Willow Tales and Bazaar Tales live storytelling nights in Melbourne.

Their website is http://cockandbull.com.au/, and They’re also on Facebook Willow and Bazaar Tales Storytelling and Twitter (@cockbullpodcast), so drop us a line to say hello.

You can support their Pozible campaign and get this show up and running by making a donation here and of course attending the shows!

Support local comedy, this is a great Melbourne show and now there’s a chance to share it with the world.
