Peru is amazing!

It’s 11pm and I have to be up at 5am tomorrow to start my 4 day trek to Machu Pichu for Black Dog Institute!

Peru is incredible. So much to share. Cusco is a beautiful city filled with colour, culture and plenty of smiling faces. Very comfortable and happy here.

Much more to come!!

Matt Pratten prepares for the Peru Challenge and trek to Machu Pichu

My dear family friend Matt Pratten decided to join me on the Machu Pichu trip, Peru Challenge 2012, in a spontaneous burst of enthusiasm. I was chatting to Matt on Facebook and said “Come to Peru with me” Attaching the link and adding a smiley face. He responded, “Yeah, it’s been a while since I did a good pack march!” He’s in the army you see and was keen to do something a bit different for training. The next week, he was booked and preparing to come.

I have been overwhelmingly impressed with Matt’s dedication to this trip, this cause and his fundraising efforts. We are raising awareness and much needed funds for Black dog Institute and their work with mood disorders. Depression is something that has affected Matt personally and he wants to make a change.

He’s run up mountains, dressed in a dog suit and done a hike, shaved his legs and so much more to get his totals up. He is close to $7000 now and still rising with an initial goal of $4000.

See Matt’s challenge page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/317008385048293/?fref=ts

Good luck Matt and can’t wait to join you on this epic adventure.

Please Sponsor Me as Climb Machu Pichu for Depression and Anxiety‏

Hey everyone,

It’s my birthday in just a few weeks and I’m not asking for any presents this year, just support of my PERU CHALLENGE 2012.

Peru Challenge 2012 will be trekking along the ancient Incan trails to the incredible Machu Pichu. On 20th October, 2012, I’ll be embarking on the Peru Challenge through Inspired Adventures and am raising funds for Blackdog Institute and the awareness of Mood Disorders.

Each year, Blackdog aim to advance the understanding, diagnosis and management of depression and Bipolar Disorder and improve the lives of those affected by these mood disorders. Please help me in my cause by donating through my page.

I’ve chosen to do this with Black Dog Institute in honour of my late Grandma, Doris Lovell. My dear Grandma lived with depression for the majority of her life.

She wrote diaries from the age of 13 and I have since been reading them and the insight into what it’s like to live with a mood disorder such as depression is heart wrenching. Every day is often a struggle. We are fortunate now to live in a time where great organisations like Black Dog Institute are there to support us and inform us of ways to get help. Grandma was lucky to have received support from family and medicine at the time but the understanding was just not there, and still isn’t. It’s so important to raise awareness about these unfortunate and debilitating disorders and give support to those who need it most.

I feel so passionately about this cause and can’t wait to help Black Dog Institute with their great work. I’ve been personally affected by mood disorders as well as had very dear friends and family suffer. Unfortunately, I’ve also lost family and close friends due to mood disorders. It’s an important issue – but we can make a difference and help those in need.

St Kilda woman raises depression awareness

4 JUL 12 @ 03:01PM BY DONNA CARTON

EMMA Lovell is taking on one of the world’s most amazing treks in honour of her grandma.

She will climb Machu Picchu to raise money for the Black Dog Institute and awareness of depression and mood disorders.

“My late grandmother Doris lived with depression most of her life. Grandma lived in a time where we had little information or awareness about depression. People didn’t talk about it. It was taboo,” Ms Lovell said.

Ms Lovell, who is participating in the Peru Challenge, must raise $4,000 before the big trip on October 20.

The funds raised willhelp with the Black Dog Institute’s community programs.

“The Institute’s mission is to advance the understanding, diagnosis and management of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.

“Depression and anxiety is something that I have personally experienced and I really feels for those who continue to live with it,” Ms Lovell said.
