My name is Sheila

MY NAME IS SHEILA, SHEILA KI JIWANI, …., I’M TOO SEXY FOR YOU!

This was the hit song of December 2010 in Bollywood and was not only catchy and stuck in your head, but also earned me a nickname amongst my new group of friends.

Sheila! The ironic thing about them choosing this name for me and this song is that Sheila is the word for a “young Australian woman”. Which I am.

I loved it cos I knew the name and the boys would all jump around me and sing it to me, but I didn’t understand why. Within 3 days I’d had it sung to me 3 times, including a small street boy outside the Cinema. By this point I was a bit freaked out. “How does this little boy know my name!!” I was like wow… Do I look like her or something?

This being said, within half an hour I realized the reasoning behind my name and the reason this song was constantly being sung near me. IT’S IN THE MOVIE! Tees Maar Khan. My mate Avi had been talking about it all week and we had planned to go watch it. So because the boys knew I was going to watch it, they decided to give me this name.

I was so ecstatic when I saw the clip for the song as well. Sheila (played by Katrina Kaif) is HOT!! What an honour!!! Check it out:

Movie review and trailer can be viewed at this site:

I loved the movie and dancing along to my song.

Not a day went past whilst I was there for 2 weeks when I didn’t hear that song at least twice a day. And I loved it because….. MY NAME IS SHEILA.

India Trip 2012 – The Itinerary

India Plan for 2012 is a bit vague at the moment and with so many places yet to explore there and so little time,I’m trying to get a bit more organised.

I’m off to India by myself for the 6th time. I love it so much and I can say with ease that it is my favourite country in the world. Big call for a traveller like me but it’s true.

See attached my Map and rough idea of where I’m going.

Orange = definite, by road or train

Yellow = maybe

blue dotted line = flying

numbers indicate the order in which i will be visiting these places

I arrive 31 January and the adventure begins.

I’ll be at a conference first 4 days. The Largest air fright conference in the world – Air cargo India.

AIR CARGO INDIA 2012

Fly or overnight train to Delhi.

21-26 Feb – A wedding of my dear friend Avi, I can’t wait to see all my wonderful friends from the 2010 wedding again.

After the wedding I will spend time exploring the city of Delhi and catching up with good friends who I’v enow known for 6 years.

26 Feb – 2 March – Fly to Srinigar in the volatile state of Kashmir for skiing with a wonderful group run by an Australian man. I can’t wait to be on guided ski tours in powder in the himalayas every day!!

www.skihimalaya.com

After this it gets a little hazy. Here are the things I want to do:

– Spend 2-3 days in Dharamala, visiting tea plantations, hiking and meeting the Dalai Lama 😉

– Spend 2-3 days in the most holy city in India, Varanassi

– 10 days in Vipasana – a silent retreat – location yet to be decided ( ideas and locations welcomed!!!)

– 2-3 days in Jaipur, the pink city and perhaps other locations in the gorgeous state of Rajasthan.

– 2-3 days in Mumbai before I leave.

Now – I have no idea how i’m getting around, where I’m staying or who I will be meeting in March and this could scare some…. but for me, I’m so excited! Who knows where the road will lead and I shall take it a day at a time and enjoy every step and every minute.

I’ll have my mobile and access to internet and will regularly post and let people know where I am, safety first- as well as my undying love and attachment to social media haha.

So any advice, tips or hints on what I should do on this amazing cultural and spiritiual adventure, please send them over.

Childhood dreams are packed in a box

Sometimes in life, it’s hard to let go. Some of the hardest things to let go of are those from our youth, from our childhood – our earliest memories.

My dad is moving house and so I must sort through and pack away all the things i want to keep or those I have to let go of and say farewell to forever.

As a traveller, this gets harder and harder as we travel around the world and collect souvenirs, memories and keepsakes to remind of us those wonderful times.

Shot glasses are my no.1 souvenir

But when your life is going to be packed away into boxes, what do you keep? What can you include in your new home, your new life, and what must be left behind with the past.

My favourite childhood toys

My soft toys will be with me forever- pink bunny is my first toy and laurie the bear is from my late grandfather.

My little ponies are every girls dream and love! I will never give those up – my little girls will have the opportunity to play with my little ponies too.

And Barbie. The classic icon of a girls youth. These are the lost of my Barbie clothes and alas they now must go ….. to make another young girl smile.

What will you keep or throw? Do you still have your childhood toys?

What travel souvenir can you just not do without?

My 2011 in blogging

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
