Walkmeter App for Fitness Training

I’ve started to use an application on my phone to monitor my walks and training. It’s called Walkmeter and it’s super easy to use and also uploads to my social media sites. Of course I love this aspect of it as I love sharing what I’m doing with anybody and everybody who will listen.

You simply login to your facebook on the app when setting up, alter the settings for updates and how you want your walks to be recorded and then it’s just a matter of pushing start. It acts as a pedometer and can measure how far you walk, what your speed is, what your average time is and give you the stats at the end in a summary of your session. The app also stores your routes and shows you a map of where you have been.

These are the messages that come up on Facebook:

At the beginning of the walk:

Started Walk

Started Walk with Walkmeter at 12:13 PM, on a new route, see http://j.mp/oggyNR, Walkmeter will speak your messages and comments to me.

At the end of the walk:

Finished Walk

Finished Walk with Walkmeter, on a new route, time 1:23:23, 5.72 km, see http://j.mp/oggyNR, average 14:35 /km.

I’ve been told however that I need to get the times, speed and distance out of my head as when on the climb this can really throw you out. A past participant said that when you ask the African guides how far to go, they will never tell you in Km’s or minutes, they will most likely say “Just around the corner.” We know approximately how long we will walk for, but really we just have to just get into it and get on with it!

I’m enjoying having this app though as it keeps me motivated and gives me something to strive for. I’m keen to add more routes and re-visit the same routes and see how my training varies on different days.

The app is $5.95 but I think it’s worth it.

I will be taking on my biggest Adventure yet, Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW!  I will Climb Kilimanjaro in honour of my Grandpa who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008. I was in Africa when I found out and I said at the time I would one day do this for him, in his memory! We are raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to raise awareness and the necessary funds for prevention of the disease that affects so many. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke. We must prevent and find a cure as it’s not a normal part of aging, and does affect 100,000’s of Australians.

Help me reach my $10.000 target by donating to my online fundraising page:
