Sober Sally for the Win

As of today, I’m a Sober Sally. No Alcohol at all until I’ve completed my Mt Kilimanjaro climb.

It’s going to be tough at times- with some big parties planned and even farewells party, but otherwise it won’t be too bad. I’ve done it before, 3 times in fact, given up alcohol for a month and it’s really been beneficial.

The reason behind giving up the booze is so that I have more focus on my training, can achieve more in more days and I have the minimal amount of toxins in my body. I do need to moderate my diet and eat less sweets, but this is a good start.

I find I can train harder and more effectively when I have a clear head and a fresh face. A drink here or there is ok, but the problem with 1 is it can quickly lead to many. So I think this is also a good training technique, for me, it teaches determination, perseverance and resilience. I’ll need these skills on my challenge to keep me going and to keep motivated on my climb.

So hold off the celebratory drinks until September 24th when I come back down from that mountain. My friend has advised that the first drink after the climb will floor me! But it will be worth it and well deserved.

Have you ever done a month or more of sobriety? Dry July? Sober October?  Share with me your experiences.

I will be taking on my biggest Adventure yet, Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW!  I will Climb Kilimanjaro in honour of my Grandpa who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008. I was in Africa when I found out and I said at the time I would one day do this for him, in his memory! We are raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to raise awareness and the necessary funds for prevention of the disease that affects so many. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke. We must prevent and find a cure as it’s not a normal part of aging, and does affect 100,000’s of Australians.

Help me reach my $10.000 target by donating to my online fundraising page:
