Diary of my Most Amazing Adventure

I will be writing the most detailed and full diary of all my travels for this trip. I hope to write a lot of the diary up when I get home and perhaps even create an e-book on what it’s like to Climb Kilimanjaro. Or What it’s like to Climb Kilimanjaro for Charity.

From the time this Climb2Remember was just a concept, I have been there. My challenge has been going for more than 12 months already, even though we only launched the trip in November 2010. It’s been a long road and the actual climb and trip will be the culmination of all these efforts.

The diary I hope will be a good way for me to process my feelings and get around the mental component of the trip- as I hear this is half of the challenge. Of course my body will be aching and screaming at me, but its also a lot of time to spend with ones mind and thoughts can get the better of us. So by getting it down on paper and pushing through this way, I think I should be able to manage that part.

It’s also an incredible thing to have documented and I want the ideas and the things I see and experience to be fresh and vivid. I will try to be as factual as I can in the information I received and record from my guides and hosts, the porters and sherpers who will help us on our climb.

I can’t wait to experience this and to share it all with you.

This means a downtime on my blog of 2 weeks because I will be actually climbing, but I hope to spend a good amount of time when I get back putting up posts!!

In the meantime- I will share photos of my trip to Africa in 2008 so you can have a sense of what I’m experiencing!

I think the writing will be therapeutic and really help with the mental coping of climbing such an epic mountiain and taking on a great challenge. It will be a very emotional trip for me, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, as I have vowed to do this in honour of my Grandpa Jack, who passed away in 2008 from Alzheimer’s. I was in Africa when I heard and actually shortly after drove past Mt Kilimanjaro. I then read an article about charity challenges and people climbing Kili for their charity and loved ones. I knew then that this was something I oneday had to do. I can’t believe that in such a short time this dream has come true.

I will be taking on my biggest Adventure yet, Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW!  I will Climb Kilimanjaro in honour of my Grandpa who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008. I was in Africa when I found out and I said at the time I would one day do this for him, in his memory! We are raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to raise awareness and the necessary funds for prevention of the disease that affects so many. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke. We must prevent and find a cure as it’s not a normal part of aging, and does affect 100,000’s of Australians.
