The Best Airport in the World

Photo blog

By far the coolest airport I’ve ever been to! This was St Maarten, Carribean. I was here in February 2011 and could not believe the rumours were true… the planes practically land on the beach.

We’re not talking little bi-planes or sea planes people. We’re talking full blown jumbo jets.

And watch out!! Don’t stand too close, people have died here. I saw people get blown back tumbling into the water as they stood behind a planes jets when it took off just 50 metres in front of them.

I was lucky enough to be in the water and had a plane go just 10m over the top of me! An amazing experience! Definitely need an underwater camera next time!!

St Maartens Beach Airport! Get there

Mashing it up in Melbourne

No I’m not making potatoes or mixing music. I’m working for one of my fave companies, Mash Marketing.

Mash Marketing is  a promotions agency who I ave the pleasure of doing some occasional work for.

Also wishing them a very HAPPY 1st Birthday!!! for yesterday. Congrats team. Sorry I missed the cake 😦

They sent me down here in March to work on a gig at Lakes Entrance, Victoria. 2 days working on the beach at the Lakes Entrance Surf Carnival for Nippers. Giving out cool drinks to thirsty competitors. Tough life. We then had to stay in an awesome apartment right on the beach in Lake Tyres. Sometimes my life is hard. I also got to visit friends in Melbourne whilst extending my work visit.

I’ve had some great gigs since moving here as well. To mention a few:

–       The Internet Show – Working for Yellow Pages/ Mazda. Great networking opportunities.

–       Nokia Candy Shop – Giving out lollies to office workers. Again, life is hard!

–       Ski Yoghurt at the Mothers Day Classic- a Charity event for Breast Cancer awareness. We had to give people free yoghurt and free funky photos – woe is me 🙂

I’m really looking forward to more fun gigs with them. A movie premier next week….. ah just another day at work!!

(P.s. Loving the Melbourne people! So warm and friendly and thankful at all the promos)

Let’s practice some Common Decency People!

Common Decency : Definition

Common decency in my books means treating  others as you would wish to be treated, being generally courteous and polite to others. It doesn’t ask a lot of any one person, it simply asks for manners. Aparently for some …. This is a bit much.

Yes this is one of my rants! Be prepared!

I recently had a  friend , we shall call him Captain of the Rude Brigade for the purposes of this story, really wrong me and it shocked me to my core. A friend of 3 years to be so rude to me and to treat me as if I were someone he had just met, or even a sweater he no longer wanted and discarded.

I had taken Captain of the Rude Brigade out with me one evening. We met at my friends house, gave him a lift to the gathering we were attending of more of our friends, none of whom he knew. We spent about 40 minutes there with Captain of the Rude Brigade being completely antisocial as  well as putting on a somewhat “too cool” act (leather jacket and all). He had mentioned he had other friends that were out and at some “hot club” somewhere in the local area. I wished that Captain of the Rude Brigade would prove how truly cool he really was and just bugger off and meet them.

Low and behold my wish came true… but not how I had imagined! The Captain had to make a phone call, so he went off around the corner and finally I could relax and sit with my friends. I hadn’t even had a chance to talk to the hosts really as my rude friend needed baby sitting.

10 minutes past. Bit strange, but I guess it was a long call.

30 minutes past. That’s a while…. I text saying “Hey, did you go?”

Expecting perhaps a re-appearance or an extremely apologetic reply with a adequate reason as to why he had not said au revoir.

1 hour passes. Embarassing! My friend who I arrived with asking where Captain of the Rude Brigade has gone. I by this point do not care.

1 hour and 30 minutes has past. We leave the house and go to a bar. I’m well and truly over it now…. But wait! A Text! Lucky me!

“Hey, I just houdinied out of there. My mate swung past and picked me up. Sorry didn’t say bye. Speak to you tomorrow.”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

That’s an acceptable way to say farewell to a friend in your world. Really? I was gob smacked. Fuming. Over it. All at once. I had no words. I deleted the message and walked on… at a quicker pace… beverages were needed!

When we reached the bar, my friend and I needed a beer… a jug in fact! Captain of the Rude Brigade was getting out of my head ASAP and I was going to get well and truly sozzled.

Common decency.., Part II

We meet a slightly aggressive, very forward, Irishman who has takena  fancy to my friend. Ok he is harmless and slightly amusing so we let him stay, even though she clearly has no interest in him and he is rather intoxicated.

He ponders as to why I am s feisty and sharp.. I explain, with somewhat less detail then this, the practice of common decency, and how a friend no less should treat their friends with such. He agrees and we carry on.

5 minutes… not even.. after this conversation. A girl approaches our table. Clearly the friend of mr Irishman. He proceeds to take the beer jug from our table and pour his lady friend a drink and chat and laugh away with her. After she leaves he turns back to the table to find a rather horrendous look on my face.

I have plastered on my face a look of disbelief, fury and shock all at once. I explain to him that it was just 5 mins ago that I was telling him a story about how a dude had been rude to me tonight and how innapropriuate that was. He didn’t get the point of my story… so I broke it down for him in some plain (and somewhat profuse language, which I wont use heree English!

“You do not hit on a girl, tell her she is beautiful, ask her on a date then take HER beer, and give it to ANOTHER girl”.

Puzzled… he inquires… “wasn’t that my beer?”

No nong head! It wasn’t.

COMMON DECENCY PEOPLE!! Let’s practice it!

End Rant!

  • Malaysian Airlines
  • Jetstar

Notes Post India

This is a wonderful letter from my friend to those who touched his life whilst travelling in India. He is from Singapore and had an amazing whirlwind of  a trip through India. This is a glimpse into his crazy time…

Singapore sucks without all of you here
Not that I’ve no friends back home, but just wanna let all of you know that I’ve been missing you, loads.
My india trip has been nothing short of fucking incredible. From the eclectic mix of Mumbai’s million subcultures, and the hippies and stoners of Goa’s Arambol, I managed to make my way to Hampi, Kerala, Kanyakumari, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Pushka, Delhi, Dharamsala, Varanasi and Agra. I’ve seen the beaches, backwaters, deserts, mountains and Indian spirituality, often accompanied by Indian filth. The sights were breathtaking, but the people I’ve met, you, were, and still are, fucking beautiful.
Many of you has been great company, making sure I was never alone and always had someone to share my drugs and joy with. More importantly, it’s you that have made me realise that the world is full of solid, ace peeps. People that are chilled out, easy-going, adventurous, sincere, and naturally nice and wise.
It’s been 8 days since I’ve gotten home, and it’s really a little different in cosmopolitan Singapore. I’m suffering from a severe Indian hangover, pasting Shiva stickers all over my room, listening to loads of Mantras and dubstep, hanging prayer flags all across my ceiling, and dreaming about the good times we’ve shared with one another.

Thanks for being the “in” of my incredible india trip. And wherever you are right now, I sincerely hope that you are still enjoying the time of your life and smiling everyday. Do send me some updates on your lives, however mundane they might be, whether you have been having fun or not.

And I’m seriously planning to move to London next spring / summer. So if you need a writer, I’m up for it. And I’ll be visiting all you european white people soon. Love loads.

Kai – the pioneer of good times.

What A Wonderful World

What a Wonderful World. What a wonderful song and what a wonderful message!

This may be a tad morbid, but I’ve chosen this as my funeral song and I want one and all to know it. This song so beautifully represents my approach to life, how I feel about the world and how I want to be remembered.

Tropical Jakarta

I remember my friend telling me years back that she and her sister had chosen their funeral songs and I thought that was sick. But now I understand. Why shouldn’t you choose a song for your friends and family that will make them remember you in the best way possible. This totally should be your decision and it’s nice for your loved ones to know this in advance.

The lyrics go:

Oooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooooooooooooh
oooooooooh oooooooh
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true

Someday I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemondrops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to
Oh why oh why can’t I

Well I see trees of green and red roses too
I’ll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and
I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
and also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do
They’re really saying I, I love you

I hear babies cry and I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more then we’ll know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
world…

Someday I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemondrops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me

Oh somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh why can’t I…

Ooooooooooooooooooh
Ooooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooh Oooooooooh

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW/WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

Singer: Thomas Newman

Oaxaca, MEXICO

I first discovered this song in one of my favourite movies, 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The film had such beautiful sentiments and the song was so upbeat and I feel you can’t help but smile when you hear it.

This song also takes me away to far away place. An easy going, free spirited and happy island Oasis. Chilling with friends and smiling about the best things in life. I’m instantly transported back to many of my travel destinations as well as I have it on my Ipod and I have so often listened to it whilst walking around a new city or along the beach.

I hope people will smile when they think of it and remember me and my attitude to life.

Lift

Song of the day!

Been feeling a bit blue last few days (predominently due to being sick and that it is actually getting cold in Melbourne) so when the song LIFT by Shannon Noll came on today, the words really resonated! The words really hit home and I knew I was feeling better actually.

This is a great song for those days when you’re on the road, trekking about or just feeling a little homesick when travelling. For strength!

Bali Sunsets always make me Smile

“Lift”

I know you’re hurting
Feels like you’re learning
‘Bout life the hard way
And it ain’t working

Seems like forever
That you’ve been falling
It’s time to move on
You’re life is calling, yeah

This was never meant to be the end
Close the book and start again

[CHORUS]
Cause I know how hard it can get
But you gotta lift
You gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger
Stronger than this
You gotta lift
You gotta lift

When you can feel your
Whole body’s aching
What’s left of your heart
It won’t stop breaking
You gotta let go
You took a hit
Time to pick up now
Move on from this

This was never meant to be the end
Close the book and start again

[CHORUS]
Cause I know how hard it can get
But you gotta lift
You gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger
Stronger than this
You gotta

Lift yourself up above all the hurt
Don’t give it
Wipe your eyes and remember
You’re better than this
Let them know
That they took their best shot
And missed
C’mon and lift

This was never meant to be the end
Close the book and start again

[CHORUS]
Cause I know how hard it can get
But you gotta lift
You gotta lift
And sometimes that’s how it is
But I know you’re stronger
Stronger than this
You gotta lift
You gotta lift

Pick up now…
Pick up now…
